Description	:	The community was greatly shocked Friday evening at the news that our friend and fellow townsman, Samuel Carney had suddenly passed away at his home at some time during the afternoon. He had spent the day before, at the store as usual, relieving his clerk from work during the day. Read More	The community was greatly shocked Friday evening at the news that our friend and fellow townsman, Samuel Carney had suddenly passed away at his home at some time during the afternoon. He had spent the day before, at the store as usual, relieving his clerk from work during the day. On Friday morning he did not come to the store at the usual time, calling up Peter Schneider about 11 o'clock and stating that he did not feel very well, and would not be down for the day, and asking him to call up Mrs. Carney at Omaha, and ask her to come home. Shortly before 7 o'clock in the evening, some of the neighbors went over to the house to see if they could be of any assistance and found Mr. Carney sitting on a chair near the table, dead, having apparently passed away several hours before. Samuel Carney was born at Beford (sic), Pa., January 27, 1850. He learned the tinner's trade at Altonna, Pa., and after engaging in business in Pennsylvania for a short time, he came to Sutton, Neb., in the spring of 1872. He was clerk for and partner with I. N. Clark in the hardware business which he afterwards purchased and continued during his lifetime. He was married to Eugenia M. Gray on January 1, 1878. This union was blessed with the following children, all of whom survive him: Mrs. Charles K. Porter, Seward, Neb; Dr. Hall Carney, Haddon Heights, N. J.; Samuel G. Carney, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. E. E. Culver, Milford, Neb.; Mrs. R. F. Swift, Jacksonville, Ill.; Mrs. Albert W. Busboom, Omaha; he is also survived by Mrs. Carney. Mr. Carney was Sutton's oldest active business man. Owing to his long active life in Sutton and the fact that he is so well and favorably known by all of our readers, words of eulogy from us would be but futile expressions. His long and successful life speaks for itself, and for the many kindnesses he did, he would be the last to desire expressions of appreciation and thanks. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. The funeral was conducted from the home Tuesday afternoon. The home was open to the friends who wished to view the remains from 1 to 2 o'clock, after which a private service was held and the remains taken to the Sutton Cemetery, where interment was made.
