He was a life-long resident of Silver Spring and resided at 9808 Colesville road. McCeney, Former Employe Of Roads Agency Samuel Childs McCeney, 71, died Tuesday at the Washington Sanitarium after a one-month illness. He was a life-long resident of Silver Spring and resided at 9808 Colesville road. From 1918 to 1935 he was employed by the Maryland State Roads Commission as a maintenance supervisor in the Montgomery County area. In 1936 he established his own paving business in Silver Spring. He retired from the business about 1948 and devoted much of his time to working on his farm in Sandy Spring, Md. He also was president of the Silver Spring Mortgage & Investment Co. at the time of his death. Mr. McCeney was a member of Grace Episcopal Church of Silver Spring and was active in the Rotary Club and Masons. He also belonged to the Enterprise Club of Sandy Spring, where he owned the fram on which the springs for which the area is named are located. He leaves his wife, Katherine Marlow McCeney of the home address; a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Hoffmann of 400 Northwest drive, Burnt Mills Village; a brother, George W. McCeney, also of Northwest drive, Burnt Mills Village, and two grandchildren. A service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Grace Episcopal Church in Silver Spring and burial will be in St. Mark's Episcopal Cemetery, Fairland, Md. Friends may call at the Warner E. Pumphrey Funeral Home, 8434 Georgia avenue, Silver Spring, after 2 p.m. today.
