Description	:	Samuel Johnson Newton, well known and respected citizen of the county died at his home in the Walker-McElmoyle section at 9:50 o'clock yesterday morning following an illness of about one week. Mr. Newton was 84 years old, and a lifelong resident of Anderson county, where he engaged in farming. He was held in high esteem by a wide circle of relatives and friends who deplore his passing. He was a son of the late Samuel Newton and Mary Elizabeth Parks Newton, of this county. Surviving are three sons, S. W. Newton, Liberty; T. O. Newton, Easley; and R. H. Newton, Augusta, Ga.; and four daughters, Mrs. John H. Melton, Liberty; Mrs. Earle Keaton, Anderson county; Mrs. Chesley Martin, Liberty; and Miss Allie Newton, Liberty. His wife Mrs. Amanda Welborne Newton, preceded him to the grave some 17 years ago. Funeral services will be held from Six and Twenty Baptist church, of which he was a member, this afternoon at 3 o'clock with Rev. F. S. Childress, of Six Mile, assisted by Rev. Mitchell, of Antreville and Rev. Earle Sargent, of Six and Twenty, officiating. The body will be laid to rest in Six and Twenty cemetery, with McDougald-Bleckley funeral directors in charge. The following grandsons will serve as pallbearers: Robert Newton, Harold Newton, Johnson Martin, Roy and Clarence Melton, and William Fowler. An honorary escort will be composed of: Glenn Boggs, Tom Webb, W. W. Walker, J. A. Allgood, Leard Newton, Thomas Martin, Walter Jameson, O. W. Cassey, George Martin, Gade Massey, W. I. Burdin, Dr. C. C. Horton, Cliff Rankin, John Evatt, Fank Mullikin, Arthur Martin, John Carson, Tom Patterson, Grover Owen, Newt Evatt, Ed Williams, Will Griffith, Paul Martin, Henry Hicks, Dr. P. E. Swords, Andrew Whitten, M. M. Hunter, Dr. J. C. Hunter, and Walter Pickle. Pending the hour of the final rites the body will lie in state at the family residence.
