The funeral will likely be held Friday afternoon from the home. ========================= The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, December 8, 1927; pg. 7 Samuel Jones Carroll was born March 9, 1965, in Lincoln, Logan county (sic), Illinois; died November 30, 1927 at his home near Mt. Clare, Nebr., at the age of 62 years, 8 months and 21 days. He was united in marriage with Katherine (sic) Zimmerman October 18, 1893. To this union twelve children were born. The oldest son, Arthur, passed to beyond in infancy. His wife and remaining children and one grand child were with him until the end. Mr. Roy Carroll, Hartington, Ethel Carroll, Omaha, Mrs. Ed Schictman (sic), Mt. Clare, Mary Carroll, Mt. Clare, Earl Carroll, Mt. Clare, Georgia Carroll, Omaha, Ward, Ada, Floyd, Esther and James Carroll are the children with the mother. Mr. Carroll was a kind and loving husband father. He was always interested in the welfare of his children, doing all within his power to better prepare them for life's work. He was interested in education and made it possible for his children to have a good education. The older children have graduated from college and attended other institutions of high education. Mr. Carroll leaves besides his immediate family and a host of friends, a brother and hree (sic) sisters: Mr. Bennett Carroll, Mrs. Wm. King of Walla Walla, Washington, Mrs. Thomas King, Sandpoint, Idaho, and Mrs. Luke Bethel of Wilsonville, Nebr. In 1886 Mr. Carroll with his brother came to Nebraska from Logan county (sic), Illinois, and lived on a farm foru (sic) miles south of Lawrence until 1889, when he moved to the farm near Mt. Clare where he remained until death. He was interested in all activities that were for the betterment of the community. His church attendance was with the Methodist church of Mt. Clare until its destruction by fire, after which he attended the Christian church of the same place. He has contributed freely to the maintaining of church services and the building of churches. His faith was unfailing in his Christ and he carried out the teachings of the Nazarene in all his work and dealings with his fellowman. His neighbors and friends knew him as an honest and upright citizen. He will be greatly missed by the family and friends. The funeral services were held at the Christian church in Mt. Clare at two o'clock Friday afternoon. The Rev. Allen Chamberlain, pastor of the Methodist church of Nelson, officiated. CARD OF THANKS We wish to sincerely thank all who helped us in any manner in this time of sorrow and bereavement of husband and father; especially are we grateful to the singers and for the beautiful floral tributes from friends and neighbors.
