Read More	From a 1909 Nance County, Nebraska, newspaper clipping file, transcribed by Linda Berney: Samuel Joseph Lingle was born in Iredel county, North Carolina, January 21st, 1847, and passed to his reward from the hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, August 7th, 1909, aged 62 yrs, 6 mo. 16 days. After reaching manhood in North Carolina, he removed to Johnson county, Ills., where he was married to Miss Jennie Smithdeal on Dec. 23rd, 1869, to this union were born seven children, five daughters and two sons, but three of whom survive, two daughters, Noi, wife of John Smith; Fleete, wife of John Fonda and one son, Jay, still at home, with the widowed mother. There still remains on time's shore one brother, Thomas Lingle of St. Edwards, and a stepmother in Statesville North Carolina, also eight grandchildren. Mr. Lingle came to Nebraska from Illinois in the year of 1882, settling on the farm which he improved, and on which he lived until the time of his death. He united with the Presbyterian church about 30 years ago, and was elected and ordained as an elder, in which office he served for a number of years. His last illness extended over many months, afflicted with bright's disease, all was done that could be done by family and friends, and a few days before his death he was taken to a hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, in hopes of extending his stay on earth, but on last Saturday, the heart failed to perform its functions, the weary wheel of life stood still, and Samuel J. Lingle was no more, for God took him. The remains were brought to his late home where the funeral was conducted by Rev. Wm. H. Cooper of Fullerton on Monday, Aug. 9th, after which the remains were laid to rest in the family cemetery.
