Cole was born in LIncolnshire, England, November 9, 1849, and died in Fairmont, Nebraska, November 19.1915, at the age of sixty-six years and ten days. When an infant, Mr. Cole was baptized in the Church of England at Boston, England. When he was two years of age, his parents removed from England to America, settling near Wayne, Illinois, where he spent his youthful years. On April 27, 1875, he was united in marriage to Miss Caroline Wood at Wyne, Illinois. Into this home were born two daughters, the eldest, now Mrs. Clara Keister, the younger, Miss Oledine Cole, both of Fairmont. Mr. and Mrs. Cole came to Fairmont, Nebraska, in March , 1887 and settled on the farm which for twenty-eight years has been their continuous home. In the fall of 1890, Mr. Cole united with Grace Methodist Church and for twenty-five years has sought to walk in the Christian way. Although Mr. Cole had been an acute sufferer for the past ten years, the news of his death came to his friends and even his immediate relatives as a great shock. Besides his wife and daughters, Mr. Cole leaves to mourn his loss, three sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Susan Candy, Mrs. Lillian Cole Bethel and Herbert M. Cole of Columbus, Ohio, . He was the oldest of a family of ten children; one brother and two sisters having gone on before. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 12:15 at Grace Methodist Church by Rev. W.A. Albright, assisted by Rev. W. P. Hanson of the Presbyterian church and Rev. A.T. Evans of the Congregational church. The choir sang "Nearer My God to Thee," "Asleep in Jesus" and "Safe in the ARms of Jesus." Mrs. Cole, her sister, Mrs. E.E. Gridley and husband, accompanied the remains to Wheaton, Illinois, leaving on train No. 12, and interment was made in the cemetery near their old home in Wayne, Monday afternoon, with a short service at the grave. Mr. Cole was a member of the Ancient Order of United Workmen and had a wide circle of friends who will be shocked at his sudden death. The Fillmore Chronicle (Fairmont) November 26th, 1915 page 1.
