Stewart, an old soldier and old settler of the Hollis neighborhood died last night at 10:30 at his home in Hollis. For some time Mr. Stewart has been suffering from heart trouble and many times when he was stricken with an attack those who were attending him pronounced him as being dead. He was 69 years old. Mr. Stewart was born in Coitsville, Ohio, to Robert and Ann (Nelson) Stewart. Mr. Stewart served in the Civil War as a Private in Company A of the 105 Ohio Reg, serving from July of 1862 until September of 1863; and was a member of the GAR John Brown Post #44 in Belleville, KS. On December 28, 1870, he married Alice Breckenridge in Mercer, Illinois. To this union were born two daughters. In the spring of 1872 the young family came to Kansas. Mr. Stewart was ex-postmaster of Hollis. Preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Mrs. Grant Hutchinson in 1908. He leaves his wife and one daughter, Mrs. J.O. Cory of Talmo to mourn his death. The funeral was held yesterday at 10 o'clock at the Hollis church. Rev. Tempelton conducting the services.
