Funeral services for Sara Montgomery will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at the First Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn. Rev. Hans Cornelder, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will be Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Sara Elizabeth Ladd Montgomery, daughter of Oliver Jonathan Ladd and Bertha Mae Adams Ladd, was born June 20, 1908, at Kilduff, Iowa. She graduated from the Oskaloosa High School in 1925. She then came to Brooklyn to join her family. Sara worked at the Brooklyn Hotel and taught at a rural school. On May 16, 1928, she was married to Raymond Thomas Montgomery at the Presbyterian Manse in Brooklyn. They farmed north of Brooklyn. After their retirement they moved into Hillside apartments. Mr. Montgomery died February 2, 1992. Since April of 1995 Sara has been a resident of Brookhaven Nursing Home. Mrs. Montgomery has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church since 1928. She taught Sunday school for many years and was a member of the UPW and Gleeful Workers. Her parents, husband, three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. Survivors include three sons and their wives, Willis and Delores Montgomery of Brooklyn, Gene and Elaine Montgomery of Glen Ellyn, IL, and Robert and Dianne Montgomery of Santa Maria, CA; two daughters, Ruth Schwiebert and her husband John of Hiawatha and Joyce Hoskins of Crescent, OK; two sisters, Dora Breneman of Brooklyn and Anna Rogan of Beaumont, Texas; thirteen grandchildren; and twenty eight great grandchildren.
