Description	:	The community of Nodaway was greatly saddened last Thursday when the sad news came from Iowa City that Sarah Ann Windom had passed away at the University Hospital. Her death ended many months of suffering and Sarah Alma Hewitt Windom, daughter of James Hewitt and Hattie Elizabeth Betts was born May 31, 1868 in Illinois and passed away August 11, 1938 at the age of 70 years, 2 months, and 20 days. Her death ended many months of suffering and Sarah Alma Hewitt Windom, daughter of James Hewitt and Hattie Elizabeth Betts was born May 31, 1868 in Illinois and passed away August 11, 1938 at the age of 70 years, 2 months, and 20 days. When four years of age, she moved with her parents to the farm southeast of Nodaway, where she spent her childhood and young womanhood. She attended the country school and Villisca High School, after which she taught school near her home and in South Dakota. March 9, 1892, she was untied in marriage to Alvin Windom at the home of her parents near Nodaway. To this union seven children were born, namely, Alma Shipley of Nodaway, Emily Johnson of Orient, Ruth of Seattle Washington, Blanch Lund of Brooks, Glen of Nodaway, Esther Means of Villisca, and Arthur of Nodaway, and two infant babies. Mrs. Windom spent the whole of her married life bar Nodaway. In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by eighteen grandchildren and six brothers. Those surviving brothers are James P. Hewitt of Corning, Arthur B. Hewitt of Denver, Colorado, Elver A Hewitt of Salt Lake City, Elmer Hewitt of Niles Center, Illinois, Lee L. Hewitt of Regina, Canada, Wilbur T. Hewitt of MacDonald, Kansas. All except one of whom have visited Mrs. Windom during the past years. Her only sister passed away in 1914. Mrs. Windom was devoted to her home and family. She was a kind and helpful neighbor and a loyal member to her church. To her religious life was a joyful privilege. She became a member of the Presbyterian Church of Nodaway soon after it was organized. Later she transferred her membership to Mt. Zion. The last twenty-five years her work was with the Nodaway M. E. Church having been teacher of the Women's class during that time. She was a member of the Missionary Ladies' Aid Society and the W. C. T. U. Shortly before going to the hospital, she called her pastor, Rev. E. B. Stewart and to him gave her wishes concerning her funeral services, should she not return. These wishes were carried out in the services Sunday afternoon. Scripture readings was a part of the 14th Chapter of John. Text : Eccles. 12:1 a message to her grandchildren in particular, "Remember now thy creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thous shall say, I have no pleasure in them." Music at the funeral services was furnished by a mixed quartette composed of Mrs. H. G. Everett, Mrs. Floyd Neill, L. W. Rider, and Martin Taylor. Selections were, "Saved By Grace" "The Upper Garden" and "It Is Well With My Soul." Mrs. C. N. Kennedy played the accompaniments. Neighbors who were pall bearers were Vern Watts, Emory Lacox, Willie Orme, Oscar Schrader, Ted Kennedy, and Wilbur Shipley. Interment was made in the Methodist Grove Cemetery.
