Description	:	AMANDA HARTMAN HOY Amanda Hartman was born March 28, 1839, at Lock Haven, Pa. Her father was Samuel Hartman. Her mother's maiden name was Lucy Hokum, a native of New York State. When she was eight years of age, her father moved to Wayne County, Ohio, where the family resided until the early "fifties" when they moved to Henry County, Ohio. Read More	AMANDA HARTMAN HOY Amanda Hartman was born March 28, 1839, at Lock Haven, Pa. Her father was Samuel Hartman. Her mother's maiden name was Lucy Hokum, a native of New York State. When she was eight years of age, her father moved to Wayne County, Ohio, where the family resided until the early "fifties" when they moved to Henry County, Ohio. In 1857 she was married to Joseph Hoy and with her husband lived on a farm in the vicinity of her father's home. In the spring of 1883 they moved to Spink County, South Dakota, and settled on a homestead. Sixteen years ago she and her husband came to Brookings where she has since made her home. Mrs. Hoy was raised a Methodist, but shortly after her marriage united with the Evangelical Church with which the family of her husband was affiliated. After coming to Brookings, she and her husband united with the Methodist Episcopal Church. She died very suddenly on Wednesday evening, November 17, at the home of her son, Albert Hoy in Beadle County, where she was visiting. Her age was eighty-two years. She is survived by five sons, A. B. of Huron, H.H. of Brookings, N.E. of Faulkton, S.O. of Portland, Ore., and C.R. of Gary, and three daughters, Mrs. D.A. Dill of Superior, Wi., Mrs. S.T. Bereman and Mrs. Chas Sample of Brookings. Her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Allinson of Gary, and one son, Richard, preceded her to the other world. Three brothers, D.V. Hartman, S.W. Hartman and R.W. Hartman of Napoleon, Ohio, thirty-four grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren also survive her. Obituary provided courtesy of Susan Arnott.
