She leaves to mourn her passing, an only son, Donald Erwin, who came from Washington, D.C., where he is stationed in the army. Rev. Simeon B. Thomas preached the funeral sermon and burial was in the Alliance cemetery. Mrs. Hawkins was born the daughter of John and Christina Grabin at Hebron, Ia., April 27, 1867 and was married Nov. 21, 1897. They made their home in Greenfield, Ia., until 1918 when they came to Alliance, then moved to Berea, returning here in 1925. Her only sister preceded her in death Feb. 6, 1944. Since the departure of her son to the army service she made her home alone at 823 Box Butte, sharing the residence with Officer and Mrs. Barrett. Here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Earl T. Thompson of Creston, Ia., and Miss Eva Clayton of Des Moines, nieces. Other relatives who mourn are two great nieces, Alice and Isabelle Thompson who spent each summer here for several years, three nephews Fred Clayton of Boise, Ida., Cecil Clayton of Creston, and Charlie Clayton of Orient, Ia.
