Description	:	Sarah Ann (Shoup) Smith was the eldest daughter and eldest child (of 7) of Martin Shoup (a.k.a. Shaub) 1803-1860, a native of Stasburg, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (Pennsylvania "Dutch" more accurately German extraction), and Rachel (Thompson) Shoup Reeder (1806-1892). Sarah moved with her parents as a girl, in 1844, to Miami County, Ohio where her father died in 1860. Smith, a widower, in 1853 in Miami County, Ohio. John was a native of New York State. The married couple resided in Tipp City, Miami County, Ohio. Together they had two daughters Mary Jane (Smith) Perkins Sproul (1856-1909) and younger daughter Ida Laura (Smith) Porter (1856-1896). John went to serve in the Union Army in the Civil War and died in the service of his country on July 3, 1862. As a young widow, Sarah went to join her mother Rachel and her other siblings in Auglaize County, Ohio. Sarah died there at the early age of 34. Her two daughters Mary Jane and Ida Laura then grew up in the home of their maternal grandmother Rachel and her second husband Caleb Reeder. Both daughters married men from Auglaize County, Ohio. Daughter Mary Jane's first husband Josiah Perkins was the younger brother of Sarah's sister's (Frances Shoup) husband William Andrews Perkins. Mary Jane would later become a widow and marry again to widower Robert Sproul. No children from that union. All of Mary Jane's children were by Josiah Perkins. Daughter Ida Laura married Jasper Porter and died young, in her thirties.
