Mrs. Sarah Deischer died, at Colfax, last Saturday, December 2, after an acute illness of several week's duration. She was at the home of her daughter, Mrs. I. W. Black, with whom she had been living during the past several months. Death was foreshadowed, a few weeks ago, when her condition became alarmingly critical. The body was brought to Monticello, last Tuesday evening, and the funeral services were conducted at the Methodist Episcopal church, yesterday, by Rev. R. V. Porter. The funeral was largely attended by the friends of the decedent. Mrs. Deischer, whose maiden name was Sarah Aumen, was born at Center, Pennsylvania, August 31, 1829. She was therefore upwards of 82 years old, at the time of her death. At the age of eight years she accompanied her parents to Stevenson county, Illinois, The Illinois country was pretty new in 1837, consequently she became acquainted with all the privations, makeshifts and hardships of pioneer life. She was married In Illinois, in 1855, to Daniel Deischer, and they came immediately thereafter to Jones county and settled in Castle Grove township, where two of their sons still reside. Mr. Deischer died in 1889, and Mrs. Deischer with the aid of her sons carried on the farm until 1896, when she removed to Monticello where she has since lived with the exception of short intervals of time spent with her children. Her surviving children are Mrs. W. I. Black, of Colfax, John A. Deischer, and Newton Deischer, of Castle Grove, and Howard Deischer, of Monticello, one daughter, Mrs. Chopper, died several years ago. Mrs. Deischer was a kind neighbor and indulgent mother. She was actively interested in all the good work that came within the sphere of her influence. She loved the work of her Master, and was zealously prompt in her religious duties. She had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church for many years, and led ad unselfish and consistently Christian life.
