Resident - Woman Pioneer Lives to Age 101 years - Active Until Recently Aged Woman Did Own Housework and Refused Help Until Last Illness Mrs. Sarah Bowsher, age 101, Allen-co's oldest resident, died at 3 a.m. Saturday morning at her home in Shawnee-twp after an illness of one week. Mrs. Bowsher, who had been active up until the time of her last illiness, was born in Pennsylvania. Her family moved to Allen-co when she was a girl. Following marriage, she and her husband cleared out a tract of land in the woods, and built a log cabin, on the site where the present Bowsher home stands. During the last summer Mrs. Bowsher took care of her own garden and lawn. Until the time when she was first stricken, she was never known to have anyone help her with the housework. She prepared the meals for her son and herself everyday. Mrs. Bowsher has been a widow 46 years. Only a few weeks ago Mrs. Bowsher dressed and cooked a pheasant her son shot the opening day of hunting season. At the time she recalled how her husband stood in their doorway of their log cabin many years ago and shot deer in the edge of the clearing. Her memory was clear until the last and she took pleasure in recalling her early experiences in Ohio. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Charles McClintock, Mrs. Elsie Arthur, and a son, James Bowsher, all of Shawnee-twp. James Bowsher lived with his mother. She also leaves 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was a member of the St. Matthews Lutheran church. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. from that church. Rev. A. M. Danchke will officiate. Interment will be in the St. Matthews cemetery.
