Crozer was born May 6, 1858 in Cedar County, Iowa, to Reason and Hannah (Hawley) Crozer. Her parents were of the Quaker faith. Sarah’s siblings were James Emmet, Orison E from Marenge, IL; Louis of Salem, OR; Charles of MN; Thomas of CA, Edna; Albert of Pawnee Station, KS, and Wilfred of Newberg, OR. She came with her family to Wall Lake Township in Sac County in 1879. On October 3, 1882, she was married to Charles Waugh Irwin and they made their home in Clinton Twp., where their six children were born: Edna Mae Davis Lorensen, Jesse LeRoy, George Reason, Lewis Edward, Frank Delos, and Orla Everett. C.W. owned over 800 acres of farmland and later was director of the State Bank of Lake View. In the spring of 1914 they moved into a house at 120 North 9th Street in Sac City. Soon thereafter the daughter of their son, George, died suddenly, leaving an infant daughter, Catherine, whom C.W. and Sallie took into their home to raise. Some years later Sallie was seriously burned when her clothing caught fire from the cookstove. She passed away in Oct. 7, 1923 from “apoplexy” (stroke). She was a stout woman with brown hair.
