Pollock, a pioneer resident of Portland township, passed away in the state hospital at Cherokee, Iowa, last Thursday evening, after being confined to her bed about six weeks, of hemorrhage of the brain. Relatives here had visited her during the past month, and Mr. Pollock was hurriedly summoned to her bedside last Thursday, arriving before her death. Sarah E. Hill was born near Half Rock, Mercer county, Mo., September 10, 1953, and resided on the farm with her parents until her marriage to R. R. Pollock on March 17, 1878. Mr. and Mrs. Pollock resided there until September, 1882 and after appending the winter at Sac City, Ia., came to Akron, February 26, 1883, and located on what was known as the Hopkins ranch in section thirty-six, Portland township. The spring of 1885 they moved onto the present Pollock homestead, which remained her home until January 25, 1913, when she was taken to the hospital at Cherokee and at which place she passed away at 9:40 p.m. on Thursday, September 4, 1913, aged 59 years, 11 months and 24 days. Her health had been affected since an attack of illness that came while she was enroute to Missouri to visit relatives about six years ago, since which time she had gradually declined despite all that all that medical science and the care and attention of loved ones could accomplish. Of the eight children that came to bless the home of Mr. and Mrs. Pollock the eldest, a daughter died in Missouri and one son and two daughters died during their residence here. With the husband and father, there are left to mourn her departure two daughters and two sons—Mrs. H. E. Bradley, of Ravinia, S. D.; Mrs. Robert E. Murphey, and Max and Russell Pollock, of Akron vicinity. The deceased joined the church when a child and was an earnest, consistent Christian through life. When a young woman in Missouri she was a school teacher. She possessed unusual talents and a kindly and helpful nature, while in the home she a devoted wife and mother, nobly fulfilling these sacred duties until partially incapacitated by failing health. Through the shadow that rested upon the home, the family has had great sympathy, and in the late bereavement those near and dear are extended the condolence of the entire community. The remains of Mrs. Pollock were brought here Saturday in the home of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Chas. Wise. The funeral held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Akron M. E. church was largely attended by former neighbors and friends. Rev. R. L. Stuart delivered a consoling and helpful sermon from the text, "Behold Thy Mother," and read the 84th Psalm. A quartet from the church choir sang favorite hymns of the departed. There were many beautiful floral offerings. The pallbearers—W. W. Ross, Isaac Harris, B. R. Adams, A. N. Williams, G. I. Searls and J. F. Waterbury—were from among the former neighbors of the family. Interment was made in Riverside cemetery. Relatives who came from a distance to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. H.
