Description	:	Reuben Russell Pollock fourth son Robert and Nancy Pollock was born at Olivesborough (Olivesburg), Ohio, March 30, 1858. In 1868 he moved with his parents to Grundy county, Missouri. He attended college at Edinborough, Missouri, and taught in the rural schools for a number of years. He was united in marriage with Sarah Elizabeth Hill, of Princeton, Missouri, March 17. 1878, who preceded him in death September 4, 1913. He was united in marriage with Sarah Elizabeth Hill, of Princeton, Missouri, March 17. 1878, who preceded him in death September 4, 1913. To this union eight children were born, four of whom died in infancy. Those left to mourn are Mrs. H. E. Bradley, Mrs. R. E. Murphey, of Union county, S. D.; Max O., on the old homestead east of Akron, and Russell D., on the farm adjoining. He is survived also by twelve grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Alden Armstrong, of Lake View, Iowa, and Mrs. Charles Wise, of Akron, and two brothers, G. W., of Galt, Mo., and J. H. of Akron. He is mourned also by numerous other relatives and a wide circle of friends. Mr. Pollock moved to Plymouth county, Iowa, from Missouri, in February of 1863, settling two years later on the homestead east of Akron, which remained his home until 1913. In recent years he has made his home with his sister, Mrs. Chas. Wise of this city. About two years ago he suffered a severe attack of stomach trouble and was again taken ill while assisting his son, Max, on the farm east of town May 20, and resumed his residence at the Wise home about the first of June. On the tenth of June he was removed to the Akron hospital, where a minor operation relieved his sufferings, but in spite of the best of care and medical attention he continued to decline, passing away there at 1:10 a.m. Monday, July 14, 1924, at the age of 72 years, 3 months and 14 days. Many pioneers and early settlers of western Plymouth county could testify to the sterling character and neighborly helpfulness of R. R. Pollock. He possessed in a high degree those rugged qualities so essential to the pioneer days. As the community grew and developed no good movement lacked his enthusiastic support, no forward step was taken without his earnest co-operation. He was active in public affairs in this community. He served the schools of Portland township as director and president of the board for several years, was township assessor for ten years and served one term as trustee. He was active in the organization of the Farmers Grain Co., of Akron, being a member of the board of directors for many years and president of the board for eleven years. During American participation in the World War, in 1917 and 1918, Mrs. Pollock represented Portland township as a member of the National Defense Council. Mr. Pollock was a member of the Masonic lodge of Akron for many years, a member of Sioux City Consistory, and also a member f the Mystic Shrine of Sioux City. The life of R. R. Pollock exemplifies in worthy fashion the type of citizenship that distinguishes the Middle West and renders it so large a factor in the national progress. He was always forward looking, saw life in its broader aspects, was alert for the welfare of his community, a leader in constructive thinking. In his passing the community experiences a great loss, softened only by t he knowledge that the impress of his life will remain during the years to come. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. C. J. Poppenheimer in the Akron M. E. church Wednesday afternoon, and were attended by a large concourse of friends in tribute to the memory of their esteemed friend. Members of Freedom lodge, A. F. & A. M., attended the service in a body. A long procession of cars followed the remains to Riverside cemetery, where the impressive Masonic burial service was conducted by Geo. E. Wells, with the assistance of brethren of the order. Relatives from a distance in attendance at the funeral were Ralph E. Root and family, Annapolis, Md., and Blaine Root, of Sioux City.
