Description	:	Mrs. Sarah Brownfield, the subject of this sketch, was born in Bartlett County Virginia, on Oct. 14th, 1796 therefore lacking but a few months of being 99 years old, at the time of her death, which occurred on the 10th, at her daughter's Mrs. Rebecca Gould's. Grandmother Brownfield while very young moved with her father's family, whose name was Price, to Pennsylvania. They settled in Fayette County, where she grew into womanhood. Grandmother Brownfield while very young moved with her father's family, whose name was Price, to Pennsylvania. They settled in Fayette County, where she grew into womanhood. In her twenty-second year on May 31st, 1818, she was married to Mr. Robert Brownfield of Fayette County, Penn., which was the place of his nativity, of this Union ten children were born, three boys and seven girls, of whom three are living, namely Dr. E.P. Brownfield of Farmington, Mrs. Ruth Israel, near Eldon; and Mrs. Rebecca Gould - Birmingham, IA. In 1835, the family moved to Indiana. They lived in that State until 1846 when they moved to Van Buren County, Iowa where she has sinced lived. Her husband died at Utica in this county Sept. 1857. She never remarried, living since the death of her husband with her children. All speak of her as a kind, devoted christian mother. Mrs. Brownfield was converted in early life and united with the Missionary Baptist Church, or as the are now known, the regular Baptist church. She was baptized in the Spring of 1831 by Elder Estep. The pastor of this Church was Elder Pattin. Thus for over sixty-four years she has served, with an euruest consecrated life, her divine master. Her husband was a member of the church several years before she united with the church. So their walk through life was united and it's are seen in the generations following, most of whom are serving their father's and mother's God. Mother Brownfield was a daughter of the Revolution. Her father served under Geo. Washington as Drum Major in his command. And her husband was a soldier in the War of 1812. Thus it will be seen she leaves a grand patriotic heritage to her children, grandchildren, and great grand children of there are several.
