Rebecca Brownfield was born in Indiana, April 5, 1840, and with her parents moved to Iowa in1847, locating in the village of Utica, Van Buren county, where she grew to womanhood. She was married to Ebenezer Gould, December 1, 1859, moving to the new home one and one-half miles south of Birmingham, where they lived fifty-two years. Mr. and Mrs. Gould moved from the farm to Birmingham about six years ago, when Mr. Gould died on June 27, 1915. Rebecca Brownfield was born in Indiana, April 5, 1840, and with her parents moved to Iowa in1847, locating in the village of Utica, Van Buren county, where she grew to womanhood. She was married to Ebenezer Gould, December 1, 1859, moving to the new home one and one-half miles south of Birmingham, where they lived fifty-two years. Mr. and Mrs. Gould moved from the farm to Birmingham about six years ago, when Mr. Gould died on June 27, 1915. To this union were born ten children, of whom Mrs. Cora Findlay of Kansas City, Mo.; John of Conway Springs, Kansas, and Mrs. Agnes Carson and Robert of Birmingham survive. Mrs. Gould also leaves nine grandchildren and one great grandchild, together with one brother, Dr. E.P. Brownfield of California, to mourn her loss. She united with the Presbyterian church in Birmingham in 1872, living a consistent christian life, always caring for the comforts of others than for her own. She departed this life, Thursday, February 7, 1918, after a lingering illness, bearing it all with exemplary patience, fully trusting in her Saviour who had been her strength and guide all through life. The funeral service was held in the Presbyterian church Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by the pastor Rev. Bock, attended by a large number of friends, and the body interred in the Birmingham cemetery, beside her husband and children who have gone before. Source: Van Buren Co.
