Highland Recorder October 16, 1908 Mrs. Sarah Matheny, widow of Daniel Matheny deceased, died on Monday evening, Oct. 12, 1908, at her home, near Rehoboth church, Valley Center in this county. Owing to the fact that Mrs. Matheny had been an invalid for number of years, and a great and constant sufferer, she was debarred from many of the pleasures of this life . Two weeks ago the beginning of the end of this life was noticeable to her daughter Miss Esther Matheny, who has been with her mother, as a constant companion and ministering angel, since she was left a widow twenty-two years ago. Tuesday evening, the funeral service was held in old Rehoboth, and there numbers went to give a last loving look to that one they had known and loved so long, and there Dr. Wagner, who was 25 years ago pastor of that church, preached in words not of this world, wonderful and beautiful, the funeral sermon, there it was that loving hands earned her remains upon the hill over looking the old home .. Mrs. Matheny was in her 80th year since August. She was a Warwick, and surviving her of this family are her brothers, Peter and John of Pocahontas county (the former ,of whom was at her bedside at the end), Mrs. Hannah Siple of the same county and Mrs. Catharine Bird of Covington. The two daughters, Miss Esther Matheny and Mrs. Chas T. Bird, were with their mother during the last days.
