Description	:	Highland Recorder March 15, 1935 Mrs. Melissa Matheny Bird died at her home near here Sunday, March 3, at five a. m. after an illness of eight weeks of double pneumonia and complications. , She was a daughter of Daniel Matheny and Sarah Warwick Matheny and was born Feb. 21, 1855. In 1877, she was united in marriage to Charles T. Bird, who preceded her to the grave ten years ago. She was a descendant of several of the pioneers of Pocahontas, Pendleton and Highland counties. Read More	Highland Recorder March 15, 1935 Mrs. Melissa Matheny Bird died at her home near here Sunday, March 3, at five a. m. after an illness of eight weeks of double pneumonia and complications. , She was a daughter of Daniel Matheny and Sarah Warwick Matheny and was born Feb. 21, 1855. In 1877, she was united in marriage to Charles T. Bird, who preceded her to the grave ten years ago. She was a descendant of several of the pioneers of Pocahontas, Pendleton and Highland counties. The following ancestors were soldiers in the Revolutionary war: John Warwick, Robert Craig, James Johnson, Capt Peter Hull, Adam Hull, and Frederick Keister. Her father was a brave Confederate soldier. She had five uncles who served under the Stars and Bars: William Warwick, Peter Warwick, John R, Warwick, Levi Matheny and Captain Jacob C. Matheny. She was converted in a meeting conducted by the Rev. S. R. Snapp, at the age of thirteen years and lived a beautiful christian life for sixty-seven years. She is survived by an aged sister, Miss Esther Matheny, and the following children: Cecil Bird, Given Bird, and Mrs. Clyde Herold of Valley Center and Kenneth Bird of North Carolina; also several grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by her pastor, the Rev. R. C. Maxwell, assisted by the Rev. Geo. F. Houck, at Beulah church on Monday, March 4, at two pm. Burial was in the Matheny cemetery. Buried in a unmarked grave.
