Sarah married Edward Colston, Sr., (25 Dec 1786 - 23 Apr 1851) on 2 May 1825 as his second wife. Edward Colston was the son of Raleigh Colston (1747-1823) and Elizabeth (Marshall) Colston (1758-1842). Raleigh Colston (1747-1823) was the son of Travers Colston (1714-1751) and his second wife, Susannah (Opie) Kenner (died 21 Nov 1749). Edward Colston was the son of Raleigh Colston (1747-1823) and Elizabeth (Marshall) Colston (1758-1842). Raleigh Colston (1747-1823) was the son of Travers Colston (1714-1751) and his second wife, Susannah (Opie) Kenner (died 21 Nov 1749). Edward Colston had [1st] married Jane (Marshall) Colston (28 Mar 1794 - Mar 1815) on 1 May 1814. She was born in Warrenton, Virginia. Jane died childless at "Honeywood," Berkeley County, (now) West Virginia. In the 1850 U.S. Census, Edward and Sarah were living in the 9th District Berkeley County, (now) West Virginia. Edward was a "farmer" and he had $75,000 worth of real estate. Edward died at "Honeywood," Berkeley County, (now) West Virginia. In the 1860 U.S. Census, the widowed Sarah was living in Berkeley County, (now) West Virginia, and she was a "farmer." She had real estate valued at $90,000 and a personal estate worth $6,447 In the 1870 and 1880 U.S.Censuses, Sarah was living with the family of her son, William, in Berkeley County, West Virginia. In 1870, Sarah had real estate valued at $28,500 and a personal estate worth $2,000. The other known children of Edward and Sarah were: 1) Elizabeth Marshall (Colston) Williams (born 24 Oct 1827) was born in Richmond, Virginia. She married Maj. Robert Albert Williams (born Aug 1823) on 22 May 1849 in Norbourne Parish, Berkeley County, (now) West Virginia. Robert was the son of John Williams and ___ (Dandridge) Williams. Elizabeth and Robert lived in Baltimore, Maryland. 2) Mary White (Colston) Leigh (19 Feb 1832 - 13 Jan 1918) was born in Richmond County, Virginia. She married Maj. William Leigh (Oct 1814 - 20 Jan 1888) on 26 Oct 1854 in Berkeley County, (now) West Virginia, as his second wife. William was the son of Sen. Benjamin Watkins Leigh and Susan (Colston) Leigh. William had [1st] married Gabriella B. (Wickham) Leigh, who died childless. Mary and William lived at "Maidstone" in Berkeley County, West Virginia. 3) Lt.-Col. Raleigh Thomas Colston (18 Feb 1834 - 23 Dec 1863) was born in Richmond, Virginia, at the home of his maternal grandfather, Judge William Brockenbrough. 4) Judith "Annie" (Colston) Michie (25 Dec 1838 - Mar 1904) was born in Berkeley County, (now) West Virginia. She was christened on 4 Oct 1840 in Norbourne Parish. Judith married D.r Theodore A. Michie (23 Sept 1821 - 12 june 1890) on 15 Oct 1884 in Berkeley County, West Virginia. Theodore was the son of James and Mary Michie. Annie is #57128635 and Theodore is #10584349. 5) Lucy (Colston) Taylor (9 Mar 1842 - 4 Mar 1928) married Col. Bennett Taylor (15 Aug 1836 - 9 Apr 1898) on 19 June 1866 in Berkeley County, West Virginia. He was the son of John C.R. and Patsy J. Taylor. 6) Edward Colston, Jr., (22 Apr 1844 - 20 Sept 1928) was christened on 26 July 1846 in Norbourne Parish. He married Mary Winston (Stevenson) Colston (24 July 1844 - 27 Nov 1917). She was born in Newport, Kentucky to Hon. John White Stevenson (4 May 1812 - 10 Aug 1886) and Sibella (Winston) Stevenson (1823 - 12 Sept 1904). In the 1910 U.S. Census, Edward and Mary were living in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. Mary died in Cincinnati. Edward died in Hot Springs, Virginia. He married Elizabeth Marshall, sister of Chief Justice John Marshall, distinguished jurist. She was buried at the ancestral home of the Colstons in the northern section of Berkeley County. Raleigh Colston purchased an estate overlooking the banks of the Potomac River and built a fine mansion thereafter known as "Honeywood." He was a man of literary tastes and devoted to the cause of religion. He was the father of Edward Colston, Raleigh T. Colston and Captain William B. Colston. Biography of Edward COLSTON Edward Colston, son of Raleigh Colston, was born in 1788 at "Honeywood" in Berkeley County. He graduated from Princeton College, New Jersey in 1806, studied the law, and was a Federalist adherent. At 25, he was elected to represent Berkeley County in the Legislature of Virginia and, at 29, was elected a member of Congress from that district, then comprising the counties of Berkeley, Hampshire, Hardy and Jefferson. Edward Colston married Jane Marshall, daughter of Charles Marshall of Fauquier County, Virginia. She died March 5, 1815 at 21 years old. While in Congress, Edward Colston met and debated many leading men of the country, Henry Clay, William Henry Harrison (before he was President), John Floyd, Henry Baldwin, Philip R. Barbour, etc. Some of his memorable speeches he gave in Congress included "Commutation of Soldiers' Pay," "The Reduction of the Staff of the Army," and "Migration of Slaves." When his father, Raleigh Colston, was getting up in years, Edward had to return to "Honeywood" to take care of the estate. He was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 1823 and 1824, and was a candidate for Congress in 1825, but was defeated by the Hon. William Armstrong of Hampshire County. The defeat was brought about by the disrupting of the Federalist party. In 1826 he was elected a member of the Virginia Legislature by a unanimous vote in Berkeley County and was re-elected in 1827, 1833, and 1834. He was commissioned a Magistrate in 1818; volunteered in the War of 1812 in the Faulkner Artillery Company of Martinsburg, rose to the rank of Lieutenant, and aided in repulsing the British in their attack at Portsmouth and Norfolk. He met Sarah Jane Brockenbrough in Richmond and they married. Edward Colston was an attorney in Cincinnati, Ohio, and died April 23, 1851. He was a representative in the 15th congress, 1817-19. He was again in the house of delegates in 1826-27, and in 1833-34. For many years he was a magistrate and in 1845 was high sheriff of Berkeley county. He served in the war of 1812 as a lieutenant. He died at "Honeywood," Berkeley county, Va., April 23, 1851.
