Description	:	Mrs. S. J. Petty passed away Sunday afternoon, April 2, 1916, at her home in Westfield township, Plymouth county, Iowa, at the ripe age of 81 years, 11 months and 19 days. In moving a week before from the Huffman place, between Millnerville and Adaville, to the Hans Wilier farm, she contracted a severe cold, from which pneumonia developed. Sarah Jane Combs was born in Loudon County, Virginia, April 13, 1834. She married Edward Petty on May 8, 1856, in the state of Ohio. They removed to Iowa in 1872 and came to Plymouth County in 1892, which has since remained the family home. To them eleven children were born and only four survive. She was left a widow March 21, 1912. Left to mourn her departure are one son and three daughters, Joseph Petty, Mrs. John Lower, Mrs. Royer Lias and Mrs. J. W. Hummel, all residing in the home vicinity; also one-sister, four brothers, fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren, Mrs. Petty lived a useful life and was respected by all who knew her. Funeral services were conducted at the home Tuesday afternoon by Rev. H. W. Mahood, of the Akron Methodist Episcopal church. Interment in Riverside cemetery, Akron, beside her husband and son, E. L.
