Description	:	Sarah Jane Pate McIntosh Sarah Jane, daughter of James and Delilah Pate, was born in Bethany, Missouri, May 1, 1853 and departed this life at her home in Keosauqua, Iowa, February 4, 1936 at the age of 83 years, 9 months and 4 days. When only five years of age, she was left an orphan, being deprived of both father and mother. She was taken into the home of John and Margaret Thomas, where she was cared for, loved and reared as an own daughter. Read More	Sarah Jane Pate McIntosh Sarah Jane, daughter of James and Delilah Pate, was born in Bethany, Missouri, May 1, 1853 and departed this life at her home in Keosauqua, Iowa, February 4, 1936 at the age of 83 years, 9 months and 4 days. When only five years of age, she was left an orphan, being deprived of both father and mother. She was taken into the home of John and Margaret Thomas, where she was cared for, loved and reared as an own daughter. She attended and joined the Center Chapel church when a young girl (Keosauqua, Iowa). And it was in this neighborhood that she met and later married C.F. McIntosh, who departed this life 26 years ago. To this union 11 children were born, 4 of whom together with the father, preceded her in death. Those who have preceded her were: Mrs. Nellie Ashby, Mrs. Minnie Sevier, Mrs. Alice Winters, and William McIntosh. She leaves to mourn her passing seven children. Dan, of Milton; Harrison of Keokuk; Craig, James and Margaret, of Keosauqua; Mrs. Ralph Diercks, of Muscatine; and Mrs. J.H. Fox of Morning Sun. She also leaves 19 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. In her home and during her last sickness, she was tenderly cared for by James and Margaret, who have made their home with the mother in her later years. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. For to know her was to love her, and her ever sunny smile was a pleasant greeting to family and friends alike. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the funeral home in charge of the Rev. M. E. Hayes of the Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Purdom cemetery. (In the 1860 Census, Sarah is living with Joseph and Florina (Pate) Hunt. Joseph and Florina were married in Shelby County, IN in 1831. Florina's parents appear to be Solomon and Ann Pate. Solomon died in Shelby Co. Ann would remarry in Missouri.)
