Fernando Laxamana officiating. Burial was made in the I. O. O. F. Cemetery. Special music was furnished by Miss Ruth Magness, Mrs. Avis Linn, Mrs. Rodney Haas and Mrs. Irene Collins who sang, "Abide With Me", "Beyond The Sunset" and "Going Down The Valley". Sara Slack Barrett was born on June 25, 1869 in Canton, South Dakota, the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Slack who were pioneers in Lincoln County, South Dakota. In 1885 she was married to Allen G. Kinyon who passed away in 1902. To this union were born 3 sons and 2 daughters. In 1904 she came to Hand County. In 1905 she was married to John S. Barrett who passed away in 1932. Three daughters and one son were born to this union. For the past twenty years the family has resided in Miller. Mrs. Barrett was an active member of the Methodist Church, attending services regularly until her health failed. She had been ill for the last three months. She is survived by one son, Harvey A. Kinyon of El Centro, California, five daughters, Mrs. Fred Haywood of Brandon, S. D., Mrs. Ray Dearborn, Mrs. Melvin Lorbeer, Missies Fern and Pearl Barrett all of Miller. Also four brothers, Matt and Rich Slack of Harrisburg, South Dakota, Joel Slack of Sioux Falls and Dan Slack of Ree Heights. In addition are eleven grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Two sons passed away in early childhood. Her oldest son, Fred Kenyon was killed in an auto accident in 1937. His wife, Mrs. Alice Kenyon resides In San Diego, California. One grandson, Kenneth Kenyon lost his life while flying over Belgium in World War II. (The Miller Press, November 25, 1948)
