Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church in Corning, Monday afternoon, conducted by the pastor Rev. E. S. Menohar and the body was laid to rest in Forest Hill Cemetery. Mrs. McKelvy, formerly Mina Perry, daughter of Allen and Deborah Perry, was born in Helpreyville, Ohio, June 10, 1842. when a small child, she with her parents located in Cambridge, Illinois, she grew to womanhood and was there united in marriage to Samuel McKelvy on October 29, 1963. To this union seven children were born, three of whom with the husband and father have preceded Mrs. McKelvy in death. Th deceased children are Elva A. and Samuel D. McKelvy who died in infancy and Mrs. Mary L. Baille. Mr. McKelvy passed to the great beyond on the of August, 1894. The surviving children are William McKelvy, Corning, and Misses Martha and Mabel McKelvy who made their home with their mother. Beside the children, Mrs. McKelvy leaves two sisters, Mrs. Caroline Smith and Mrs. Elizabeth Ashby both of Creston, also one brother, N. M. Perry of DeNova California and a large circle of friends. Mr. and Mrs. McKelvy came to Adams County in 1865 and the family home has been in this county ever since. For a time they resided in Mt. Etna and on a farm near Corning and some 15 years ago, Mrs. McKelvy located in Corning. On November 3rd, Mrs. McKelvy complained of being very tires and from that time on she grew weaker until she died. She was a lady of sterling worth, a true Christian character and admired and loved by those who had the pleasure of her acquaintances. She left a noble heritage in her life's example. Mrs. McKelvy will be greatly missed. She was ready and anxious to go to join loved ones gone before, and she made the arrangements for her funeral requesting that her casket be not opened at the church. Mrs. McKelvy united with the Methodist Church in early life and remained a faithful member. She was in her Sunday School Class 45 out of 53 Sundays, the past year and missed only on account of weather conditions. The loss to loved ones and friends of this good pioneer lady will be greatly mourned. Adams County Union-Republican, January 12, 1927, page 9
