Sarah Foster's maiden name is in question. Some believe it to be JONES and there is some evidence to support this, but no true sources to the fact. Sarah Foster's maiden name is in question. Some believe it to be JONES and there is some evidence to support this, but no true sources to the fact. John Jones & Sally Hughes had a daughter named Sarah, born in 1773 - Sarah FOSTER's DOB is not in question. It is written in the family Bible owned by Mill Creek Billy as 15 Oct 1773 (I, Pam Reid, personally own that Bible now and can verify the contents). If she is THAT Sarah, she would be the sister of Mary Ann Jones JAMES (widow of Thomas James, died in the Revolutionary War) m. Major Billie FOSTER. We know these families were closely allied. There is also evidence that she was the daughter of Joseph HURT and his second wife, Mary Elizabeth "Polly" Wilson. They also had a daughter, born in Virginia in 1773, named Sarah. This family came to Spartanburg District about the same time that the FOSTER and JONES families migrated. Joseph FOSTER was a deacon at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Polly HURT migrated to Kentucky, as stated in the newspaper article "widow and surviving children sought a home in the West" after Joseph died. This family ended up in Wayne County, KY.
