She is survived by her brother, Alpheus Huddleston of Cambridge City, and a sister, Mrs. Kate Jay of Centerville. *Cambridge City Tribune, Cambridge City, IN - Jan. 29, 1925 OBITUARY Sarah Violet Howren, daughter of John and Susanna Huddleston, was born July 17, 1847, in Mt. Auburn, IN. Departed this life Jan. 20, 1925, aged 77 years, 4 months and 3 days. The childhood days of Sister Howren were spent in the old fashioned Christian Home, wherein the family fireside consisted of father, mother and 12 boys and girls. The early teaching and training was also of that old Christian type where the family gathered together and home was the center, and learned the early steps in the development of character as it was taught from the Bible in the old fashioned home. Good seed found tender soil in the heart of Sister Sarah, and sprang up into active Christian life in the church when she became a member at the age of 15 years. Life brought to Sister Howren both joy and sorrow, as it does in all lives, and developed within her the principles of living, trusting faith in God of her youth--such as a faith that enabled her through dark days to climb a little higher, and through bright days to vent her soul in appreciation and praise to Him from whom all her blessings flowed. Her attitude toward life and her implicit faith in the goodness of her Divine Father worked within her fully ripened and beautiful spirit, which could see within her fellow men, her church, home and community the beautiful and true residing there to the extent that she always had something good to say about everybody. This warmth of soul drew many friends to her side, and as death her for their own, the word on every hand was one of sympathetic sorrow for her suffering, and of sad bereavement at her passing. Truly a fine life has been lived and a fully matured and ripened spirit has passed on to its reward. Sister Howren was united in marriage to Charles Howren in her early womanhood and became the mother of one daughter, Lillian. The family circle was first broken, Apr. 13, 1914, by the death of the husband and father, and again by the passing of the daughter, Lillian, Nov. 12, 1920. Since that time life has been just a listening for all to come, which faith within her said would be eternal reuniting. She waited through suffering and patience. The darkness of the long way was lighted up with the star of Christian hope, and the "valley and the shadow" yielded to the presence of Him to whom she had believed, and "goodness" and "mercy" went with her where she dwells safely "in the house of the Lord forever". Her passing leaves one brother, Alpheus Huddleston of Mt. Auburn, and one sister, Katherine Jay of Centerville, and many other relatives and friends who miss her with sorrow. She endeared herself to all and her going away, while it means pain to those who loved her, yet it brings with it a thankfulness for life so worthwhile has been spent among them that they can truly feel earth's loss is Heaven's gain, and that "all is well". Gethsemane recedes in the distance and the "house not made with hands, eternal in the Heaven's" stands upon the rock of ages. Only a few days before death came she met her pilot face to face and delightedly exclaimed to her neice "Oh Nelly, I see Jesus". Funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Dublin Thursday afternoon. Burial in the East Cemetery.
