OBITUARY PUBLISHED in Montrose Press, Montrose, Colorado, Sunday, April 16, 2017: Selma “Sami” Kruger, 93, passed away peacefully, April 8, 2017, with her family at the home of her niece, Rachel Rolfes. She recently had rejoined her sister Lydia Stumpenhorst, 97, and her nieces, Roma and Rachel. She was so grateful to be back with her family. Sami was very proud that she took no medications, but instead “vitamins,” and enjoyed many years of good health. She was a fighter till the end. Her favorite phrase, “I might be tiny, but I’m mighty.” She loved the comics and inserted her humor often. Her faith was her anchor and it shined through to anyone near. She will be very missed. “Sami” was born Oct. 7, 1923, and was raised on a farm west of Plymouth, Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church, and graduated from high school, Fairbury, Nebraska. She married Alvin “Cap” Krueger on June 5, 1949, and moved to Blue Hill, Nebraska, where she was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed singing in the choir, serving in her church and taking care of those in need. Selma enjoyed reading, especially her Bible and was a special friend to many. She worked for years at Barnason’s IGA and helped at Caps Service Station. She & “Cap” cleaned the church, as well as, the Blue Community High School. In 2011, Selma moved to Montrose, Colorado, to be near her sister Lydia and enjoyed six fun-filled years together. She was a member of Living Word Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin; his brother, Doug Krueger; and sisters, Margaret Kuhn and Helen Cole; and Sami’s parents William and Clara Vorderstrasse; brothers Melvin and Arnold; sisters Edna Krueger, Elsie Haecker, Luella Parde and baby sister Joann. Selma is survived by her sister Lydia Stumpenhorst; numerous nieces; nephews; cousins; and many close friends. A private interment service of cremains in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery Blue Hill will take place at a later date. Memorial is to be sent to “The Lutheran Hour.” Lutheran Hour Ministries 660 Mason Ridge Center Dr. St.Louis, MO 63141.
