Scott Seymour Blois Scott was born August 23, 1911 to Marsden and Eva Rafter Scott of Hyde Park, MA. He attended high school in Sharon, MA and receibed his Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture from Massachusetts State University at Amhurst, MA. Seymour spent serveral years as a Commissioned officer of the U. S. Army Horse Calvary and from there became a staff administrator to the government CCC program. In 1941 he married Elaine Kellar and to this union one son, James Phillip Scott was born. He entered the U. S. Army in May of 1941 and served as a Commissioned Officer to the rank of Captain. He served in the Armored Calvary 5th Armored Division and participated in several European Allied Campaigns during World War II. Captain Schott received several military decorations including; "The Silver Star," "The Distinguished Unit Badge," "The Purple Hear," and numerous other recognitions. He was dischared from the military service in 1952 and returned to the Valentine area where he was engaged in ranching. For several years he taught "Farm Training" to dischared Veterans engaged in ranching and farming. On May 7, 1957 he was married to Betty Lambrecht Stilwell and together they ranched and gardened on their place north of Valentine. He worked for many years as manager of the Dept. of Agriculture A. S. C. Office and retired in 1973. He was elected and served as Cherry County Commissioner from 1983 to 1986. Seymour enjoyed fishing, yard and gardening and especially in the last few years watching wildlife. He entered the Bethesda Care Center in February 1994 and was transferred to Ainsworth Hospital's Long Term Care, where on May 9, 1994 he passed away. Seymour was preceded in death by his parents and step-son Eugene Stilwell. Survivors include his wife Betty, son James Philip and wife Kaye of Denver, CO and stepson, Daryl Stilwell and wife Lori pf Casper, WY, two brothers, Bruce and Crawford and two sisters, Virginia Whitaker and Marion Teevens. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Sara and Zachary Scott and Lindsay, Ashley, and Dixon Stilwell as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Services for Seymour Scott were held Thursday, may 12, 1994 at the United Methodist Church in Valentine. REV. Larry Nothstine officiated at the 2:00 p. m. service. Sandoz' Chapel of the Pines was in charge of the arrangements.
