His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Abbott. He married Gayle Buckner in Nebraska City, Nebraska in July 1968. She had been living with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Myron Buckner of Hamburg, Iowa, while her husband was in Viet Nam. Sergeant Abbott living in Nebraska City, Nebraska until enlisting in the Army. He had served in the Army 11 years. He is survived by his wife, two children, Melinda, 8, and Guy Jr., 5; three sisters, Mrs. Delbert (Lois) Barrett of Fremont, Nebraska, Mrs. Dale (Wanda) Barrett, Nebraska City, Nebraska, and Mrs. Mervin (Vernus) Rockford, of Oakland; and five brothers, Martin, Everett, and Darold of Nebraska City, Nebraska, Larry of Union, Nebraska, Tom of Eyota, Minnesota. Abbott of Hamburg, Iowa has been informed her husband, a S/Sgt with the First Cavalry Division serving somewhere in South Viet Nam was killed in action Sunday. The 30 year old air cavalryman, a career veteran of ten years service, was on his third assignment to the war theatre. He had been overseas this time since September 24. Mrs. Abbott, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Myron Buckner is expecting their first offspring later this spring. She has been living with her parents since Sgt. Abbott went overseas. No other details of his death were known at press time. The funeral and burial will be at Nebraska City, Nebraska, but the date has not been set. Sgt. Abbott was a decorated hero of the war, having been awarded four purple hearts for previous wounds, in addition to a bronze star with cluster, and another bronze star with valor citation.
