Craft, 53, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at Benefis Hospital in Great Falls, surrounded by his family. D.D. was born Sept. 13, 1955, in Conrad to Harold and Olive Craft. He spent his first growing years in Polson, until his family moved to Boulder in 1964. He attended Boulder Elementary and graduated from Jefferson High in 1973. Shortly after graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, which took him to places like Hawaii and Thailand. Upon completion of his military service, he returned to Boulder and started his law enforcement career with the Boulder Police Department, and then as a deputy for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office for the next 20 years, all the while being involved in the community as a school board member, EMT, football and baseball coach. On Aug. 8, 1987, he married Rhonda Hagerty in Boulder and from that union they had two beautiful children, Michael and Jessica. Looking for a career change in 1992, he went to work for a short time at MDC and as a security officer at Fort Harrison and a part-time school bus driver for Harlows. In 1994, he and his wife owned and operated the R & D Video store in Boulder, but his love for law enforcement took him back to the Jefferson County Sheriff's office as a 911 dispatcher. While pursuing his love for the law, he threw his hat into the ring for the mayor seat and for the next nine years he spent many hours dealing with the problems and accomplishments of Boulder. He was very proud that he was involved with the Main Street project, getting the city back on its feet and most recently working on the renovation of the Boulder swimming pool. One of the greatest joys in his life was his children and their friends, as many would call him Dad. However, first and foremost, he was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, son-in-law, brother-in-law, and all around best friend who we will deeply miss. D.D. was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Rhonda; son, Michael; and daughter Jessica, all of Boulder; brothers, Gary (Marilyn) Craft, Gerold (Carmen) Craft, and Jim Quinlan, all of Boulder; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. "Till we meet again D.D." Love You. Memorials are suggested to the development of the Centennial Park which D.D. was working with. Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. from the old high school gym (south gym) at Boulder with the Rev. Waveland King officiating. K&L Mortuaries & Crematory of Boulder is assisiting with arrangements.
