Description	:	Funeral services were held for Donald E. Gilbreath from the First Presbyterian Church in Lyons on Saturday, August 4, 1984. Presiding at the morning rites was Rev. Larry Woodcock. Robert Widener was organist with vocalists Ferne Kempcke and Cindy Kempcke offering hymn selections. Casket bearers were John Oberg Jr., James Oberg, Donald Gilbreath, John Oberg Sr., Dale Nichols and Robert Gilbreath. Interment was in the Lyons cemetery with Piper Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Donald Edward Gilbreath was born to Leon and Pearl Gilbreath on November 30, 1923 in Omaha, Nebraska. During his youth he attended Clifton Hill grade school. He was a graduate of Technical High School in 1941, where he was an All-State center on the football team. A member of the American Legion and the Veteran of Foreign Wars, he served in the Air Force during WWII in the Indo-Chinese Theater. On November 7, 1946, Don was united in marriage to Evelyn Hale Gilbreath in Omaha. Their family, at the time of his death included Edward and Sally Gilbreath and children of Fremont; Bill and Patty Gilbreath and family of Axtell; Karen and Jim Vlach and family of Lyons and Jerry and Karen Gilbreath and children of Axtell. Don was an active member in the First Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, Council Treasurer and Sunday School teacher. During his lifetime he was very much involved in his community. He was both a Cub master and a Scoutmaster for 10 years, and a member of the Lyons Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. He was also a faithful member of the departments rescue squad. Don was employed in the United States Postal Department for 20 years. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Howard, Bob and Leonard. He is survived by his wife, four children and eleven grandchildren, a sister, Eunice Siford of Omaha and several nephews and nieces. The family has requested memorials be directed to the First Presbyterian Church, the Lyons Volunteer Fire Department and the Rescue Squad of the America Cancer Society.
