Mr. Shealy died Friday, June 13, 2008. Born October 21, 1924, in Newberry County, he was a son of the late Riley Bachman Shealy and Dora Mabel Callaham Shealy. A US Army veteran of World War II, Earl served as medic in the Pacific Theater including Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines. Earl was a retired x-ray technician with the VA Hospital, having worked at St. Francis Xavier in Charleston and WJB Dorn VA Hospital in Columbia. A long time member of Sandy Level Baptist Church and the Men's Sunday School Class, he was grateful for the time he was able to sing in the church choir. He was also a member of Woodmen of the World, and a former member of the Jackson Flyers. Before his health failed, Earl loved woodworking, fishing, and flying radio-controlled airplanes. In his later years, listening to the Gaither’s and visits from his grandchildren gave him much joy. Earl will be remembered as a devoted grandfather, father and husband. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Eula Shealy of Blythewood; sons, Sherrod E. Shealy, Jr. (Christine) of Hampton Roads, Virginia, Larry (Patti) Shealy of Ladson, S. C. and Frank (Valerie) Shealy of Blythewood; sister, Melzie Daniel of Fayetteville, Ga., eight grandchildren; five-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. www.ShivesFuneralHome.com.
