Kaye was born Aug. 17, 1937, in Hannon, Mo., to Emmett and Sadie (Talbott) Richmond. She was raised from age 12 in Liberal, Mo., by her sister and brother-in-law, Roma and Dale Charlton. Read More	JOPLIN, MO — Sherry Kaye Prettyman went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 30 at 6:55 a.m. after a long illness. Kaye was born Aug. 17, 1937, in Hannon, Mo., to Emmett and Sadie (Talbott) Richmond. She was raised from age 12 in Liberal, Mo., by her sister and brother-in-law, Roma and Dale Charlton. She married Clemith Prettyman on Aug. 31, 1957, in Miami, Okla. They had two children, Tamara Lynn and Kenny Dean. They moved to Joplin in 1961. In 1970, Kaye completed her bachelor¹s of science degree in education at Missouri Southern State College. She then went on to complete her master's of science degree at Pittsburg State University. She taught elementary school in Joplin at Washington Elementary and Irving Elementary for 27 years until retiring in 1997. Kaye was a longtime member of Southside Bible Baptist Church in Joplin, where she helped teach Bible school and keep the church records. Kaye loved scrapbooking and playing slot machines. She was an avid collector of children's dishes and Hallmark Christmas ornaments. For many years, she enjoyed having coffee with friends each morning at McDonalD's. Kaye was a loving mother and grandmother, always putting family first. Her home was the family headquarters for holiday and family gatherings. Kaye is survived by her husband, Clem Prettyman, of Joplin; daughter, Tammy Meadows and son-in-law, Dale, of Joplin; son, Ken Prettyman, Gardner, Kan; grandchildren, Sarah Brown and husband, Barry, of Neosho, Chelsea Prettyman, Joplin, Ethen Prettyman, Olathe, Kan., Kathy Desourdy, Neosho, Shawn Meadows, Joplin, and Whitney Barker, Olathe; great-grandchildren, David Desourdy and Nina Brown; niece, Beverly Long and husband Ron, Liberal, Mo.; sisters, Helen Marlow and husband, Howard, Kansas City, Mo., Alice Overstreet and husband, Charles, Carthage, Mo.; brother, Lloyd ³Buck² Richmond and wife, Vernice, of Sheridan, Wyo.; and many nieces, nephews and loving friends. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, at the Southside Baptist Church, 2302 Grand Street, Joplin, with Rev. Freddie Wright officiating. Ken Prettyman will give the eulogy. Burial will be in Rosebank Cemetery at Mulberry, Kan. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Bedene Funeral Home, Arma, Kan. The family suggests memorials be sent to Southside Baptist Church, 2302 Grand Street, Joplin, or Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, KS 66712.
