She was born in Mark Center, Ohio, on December 6, 1936, the daughter of Willis and Helen (Hootman) Arend. She was a graduate of Mark Center High School with the class of 1954. Thiel, 74, died Monday, January 10, 2011, at Manor House Assisted Living in Antwerp, Ohio. She was born in Mark Center, Ohio, on December 6, 1936, the daughter of Willis and Helen (Hootman) Arend. She was a graduate of Mark Center High School with the class of 1954. On April 16, 1955, she was united in marriage with Deloy "Dude" Thiel. He preceded her in death on October 11, 2003. She was retired from Sheller Globe-United Technologies of Grabill, Indiana. Shirley was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Eagles Auxiliary and attended the Senior Center. Surviving Shirley are three sons, Jeff (Twyla) and Dan (Vicki), all of Hicksville, and Tim of Cincinnati; two daughters, Darlene (Ed) Wagner of Oakwood, Amy (Jason) Schooley of Hicksville; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two granddaughters, Michelle and Darlene; and a brother, Donald. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hicksville, with Father Stephan Schroeder officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at Smith & Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville, with a wake service at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be at Six Corners Cemetery, Hicksville.
