Description	:	Shirley Ann Benge, 76, Mesa, AZ, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa. Shirley was born at Vermillion, July 6, 1931, the daughter of Albert and Rose (Johnson) Shadbolt. Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 8, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Elk Point, with Rev. Jared Rakness officiating. Burial will be in BluffView Cemetery in Vermillion, under the direction of Mount Funeral Home of Plankinton. Shirley attended school in Vermillion and Wakonda. She moved to Denver, CO in 1955. She then moved to Mesa, AZ. She had made Mesa her home since then. She was united in marriage... Shirley was born at Vermillion, July 6, 1931, the daughter of Albert and Rose (Johnson) Shadbolt. Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 8, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Elk Point, with Rev. Jared Rakness officiating. Burial will be in BluffView Cemetery in Vermillion, under the direction of Mount Funeral Home of Plankinton. Shirley attended school in Vermillion and Wakonda. She moved to Denver, CO in 1955. She then moved to Mesa, AZ. She had made Mesa her home since then. She was united in marriage to Lowell Benge, Aug. 23, 1979 in Las Vegas, NV. Lowell passed away two days after Shirley, on Feb. 28, of complications from pneumonia and emphysema. Shirley spent most of her adult life as a caregiver to elderly ladies, until she retired. Family and friends were of great importance to her. She always remembered them with birthday and anniversary cards and with a phone call on that special day, and on holidays. She always talked to everyone who was at home on those special occasions. Shirley was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Mesa. She and Lowell also belonged to the Moose Lodge and the Elks. They got together with friends often to play Dominoes. She thoroughly enjoyed playing "chicken foot." Shirley was an excellent cook and homemaker. She loved cooking good meals for Lowell and friends. She is survived by a step daughter, Bonnie (Jerry) Doll, of Sequim, WA; a son-in-law, Melvin Fritz, of Topeka, KS; grandchildren, Todd and Wendy Fritz, Topeka, KS, Traci and Curt Havenstein of Maple Hill, KS, Jill and Tim Bricker of Thornton, CO, and Alisa and Erick Bonz of Chandler, AZ; and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Hughes of Denver, CO, and Barbara and Harvey Mount of Vermillion; three brothers, Marvin (Bud) and Doris Shadbolt of Jefferson, Kenneth and June Shadbolt of Wilsonville, OR, and Russell and Janet Shadbolt of Pomona, CA; and several nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Rose Shadbolt; two brothers, Stephan and Rodney; and one sister, Jeannette, and brother-in-law, Lowell Carlson. She will be greatly missed by her family and those who had the privilege of knowing her, and all whose paths crossed with her on her journey through life. Vermillion Plain Talk Mar. 6, 2008
