Shirley was born on January 11, 1930 to John L and Eva Viola Adams Everhart in Grand Island Nebraska. She had a head full of lovely red curls, and green eyes. She was 86 years young. Shirley was born on January 11, 1930 to John L and Eva Viola Adams Everhart in Grand Island Nebraska. She had a head full of lovely red curls, and green eyes. Shirley had two older brothers, Virgil & Jack, and a younger brother Joe. The family of six moved from Grand Island to California in 1937, finally settling in Santa Maria California in 1938. She was hospitalized in 1939 with a ruptured appendix, and spent over a month in the hospital recovering. When Shirley was 16, she earned enough to purchase her one and only bicycle which she loved dearly as it gave her a sense of independence. That year for Christmas, her father surprised her with a brooch that looked exactly like her bike. It also had her birthstone, Garnet, in it. The brooch was one of her most cherished pieces of jewelry. Shirley met Robert Charles Dupuis one Saturday night while dancing at the Rose Garden Ballroom in Pismo Beach, CA. She loved to jitterbug and swing dance, and was usually found there on the weekends. Robert (Bobby) and Shirley were married in Santa Maria on May 14th, 1950, one day after Bobby’s birthday. They had three children together, Teresa Michelle, Maryjo Ann, and Richard Charles. There was never a shortage of laughter and good times spent with Shirley’s Mother, Eva, Bobby, her brothers and their wives, and all the nieces and nephews. Weekends meant Sunday drives, swimming at the Hawaiian Hot Springs in Avila Beach, roller skating at the roller skating rink, hiking at Arroyo Grande Park (now Lopez Lake), barbeques at Waller Park or in the backyard, playing cards, and just being together. Shirley and Bobby were avid bowlers, and participated in the Elks Bowling League for many, many years. Shirley had a few long term jobs that she enjoyed. They included working for Security First National Bank, Santa Fe Driscoll and Knudsen Frozen Foods as office manager, working in radiology at Marian Medical Center, and her last job as a records clerk with the City of Santa Maria in the Police Department prior to retiring. She joined Bobby’s sisters on a “cruise of a lifetime” from New York to the Bahamas. The four single ladies had a wonderful time, and enjoyed themselves to the fullest. She often spoke of that trip. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Bobby, parents, John L and Eva V Everhart, brothers Virgil, Jack and Joe, sisters-in-law Arlene and Jackie (Birdie), sister in law Lucille Charbonneau (Bobby’s sister). She was the last of the era on her side of the family. Shirley is survived by her children Teresa (Joseph) Bond of Maybee Michigan, Maryjo (Ronald) Barnard of Miles City Montana, and son Richard (Anna) Dupuis of Santa Maria. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Kelly (Brad) Ler, Seth (Sarah) Bond, Amanda Barnard, Sam Bond, and Vincent (Raeanna) Dupuis. Shirley had eight great-grandchildren, Keara Barnard, Kenzie, Miley (Mimi) & Brekken Ler, Luccas & Jack Bond, Audrey and Maverick Bond. She loved her nieces and nephews as though they were her own, Becky Maxwell, Lester (Joey) Everhart, Gary Everhart, Frank Everhart, Tim Everhart, Linda Rubio, Diane Everhart, Jake Everhart and Ron Everhart. She is also survived by Bobby’s two youngest sisters, Pearl Beauchesne of Lowell Massachusetts and Pauline Abney of Port Arthur TX. There will be a graveside service in Santa Maria California on January 7th, 2017 where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Bobby Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home Notice 09/230/2016
