TRAVIS DIES - - Sicily Island Page was three years old when the family landed in Sidney. This was her home until she was 14 when they moved to Hamburg. She lived in the state 83 years and in Fremont county 80 years. When she came to this part of the west there was not a railroad within the county. Much of the land was unbroken prairie sod. She took a deep personal interest in the earliest pioneer movements. She personally knew so many of those who were among the very first settlers. She shared with her husband his thrilling accounts of still earlier episodes. Mrs. Travis joined the Presbyterian church of Sidney, some 40 years ago. Her husband became a member of the same church about three years later. She and her companion were active in its work as long as their health and strength permitted. She shared its social life and contributed much to its spirit of fellowship. She found great comfort in its teachings and in its ministry. For the past five years she has been an invalid most of the time. Her Christian faith made her patient in suffering, uncomplaining in adversity, brave in her sorrows. Her confidence in God made her hopeful, cheerful, always forward looking. She was a member of the Rebekah lodge and of the Pythian Sister lodge. The community will miss her and her husband, who were such early pioneers and such worthy citizens of the land.
