Description	:	SIDNEY WILLIS BOWLES Class of 1897 - Born, Sept. 10, 1870, Easton, N.H. Son of Willis and Katharine (Dwyer) Bowles. Mr. Bowles fitted for college at Dow Academy, Franconia, N.H. Mr. Bowles' professional record was briefly as follows: Foreman and assistant engineer for the Hastings Pavement Co., in New York City, May, 1897, to the close of the season. The company wished to retain him in their employ, as he was esteemed to be very efficient; but Mr. Bowles expressed a great aversion to doing work in New York, because of conditions at that time prevalent on much of the work... From Dec. 1, 1897, to July, 1899, he was foreman and engineer for Stone & Thurston (T.S.C.E., '96 and '95), contractors and engineers, and during the summer of 1898, had entire charge of the construction of the central steam heating station for Dartmouth College, which was thoroughly done and successfully completed to the great credit of all concerned. From July, 1899, to October, 1900, he was assistant engineer for the Great Northern Paper Co., at Millinoocket, Maine - H.S. Ferguson, T.S.C.E., 1891, chief engineer. He then realized a long cherished desire to be engaged in mill construction. After this he was concerned with various surveys and construction, chiefly in northern New Hampshire. He was put in charge, as inspector and superintendent of the College Grant, of important interests of Dartmouth College in Coos County. He was engaged upon this work in January and February, 1902, and at this time contracted the fatal illness. Died, March 7, 1902, of pneumonia, at Wentworth's Location, N.H. Married, Annie F.
