CULLEN CLAIMED BY DEATH Funeral Services Held Tuesday Afternoon Mr. William Sol Cullen, prominent Asbury resident, died at the McCready Hospital last Saturday, following an operation, at the age of 73 years. He was the son of the late William and Sarah Cullen, and had lived in this community, where he had a host of friends, all his life. Mr. Cullen had been a waterman early in life and then had engaged in the packing and processing of seafood for many years. He was regarded as an authority on oysters and crabs and his services were always in demand, at those times when he was not engaged in business for himself. For several years he was engaged in the retail mercantile business in Lawsonia. Of a genial nature, he made friends easily, and held them throughout his life. He was good company, and always interested in the civic life of his community and an active worker in his church. While he had not been in good health for several months, his death was a shock to his many relatives and friends. He was a good citizen, helpful to others, generous, and he will be greatly missed among his large circle of friends. Funeral services were held in the Pilgrim Holiness church at 2.30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the pastors, the Holden Sisters, and interment was in Asbury cemetery. A large number of relatives and friends attended the services, and many beautiful floral pieces were sent as tokens of the high esteem and regard in which he was held. Bearers were Jarvis Sterling, Thomas Hastings, Burns Sterling, Luther Johnson, Ralph Taylor and Richard Landon. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary E. Cullen, one daughter, Mrs. Grace Sterling, and three stepchildren, Harrison T. and Reginald Landon, and Mrs. Neva Rothgeb. One sister, Sallie Sterling, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, also survive. The Crisfield Times, Crisfield, Maryland, Friday, January 30, 1948, p. 8 _________ William S.
