They lived in Maine and New Hampshire. Their children were Ada Louise, Abbie, Mary Ellen, William Salmon, John Carter, Charles Barnett, Artemus Benjamin, Frank Henry, James A. On Oct 21, 1866 he married Catherine Matilda Hapgood, daughter of William Salmon Hapgood Sr and Rebecca Woodsum Mason. They lived in Maine and New Hampshire. Their children were Ada Louise, Abbie, Mary Ellen, William Salmon, John Carter, Charles Barnett, Artemus Benjamin, Frank Henry, James A. G, Albion Almon "Alby", Clarence Henry, Alton Everett, Gloria, and Lillian L. There is some confusion on the number of children. In 1900 Catherine was listed as having 10 children, all still living. In 1910 it listed 10 children, with 9 still living. There are 14 children listed above, gathered from all the census reports. Sometimes this is because daughters have children and the parents raise them, and they are always listed as the parents. Abbie, born Mar 1870, is only listed in the Jul 16, 1870 census; but daughter Mary Ellen was later listed as born Mar 13, 1870 (although she was not in the 1870 census). This suggests that Mary Ellen and Abbie were the same child. James A. G. is only listed in the Jun 2, 1880 census as 2 months old and as born Mar 1880. Frank Henry, born Mar 14, 1880 was not in the Jun 2, 1880 census, suggesting there was a name mishap and James A. G. and Frank Henry were the same child. Daughter Mary Ellen, born 1870, died in 1906 so she possibly would have been the one accounted for in the 1910 census. Daughter Gloria, born abt 1900, is only in the 1910 census. Deaths have been confirmed for all the children except Abbie and Gloria. If Abbie & Mary Ellen were the same child and then James & Frank were the same child that brings the count of children to 12, not 14. If Catherine was the mother of Gloria in 1900 she would have been 52 years old and 56 years old when Lillian was born. Those ages are possible but not always probable.
