Read More	Dayton Review Thursday, April 13, 1922 Solomon Carlson Passes Last Sunday evening, April 9th, the spirit of Solomon Carlson passed to the arms of the Redeemer, ending the earthly career of another of the aged pioneers of this community. Mr. Carlson was born in Ryssby Parish, Kronobergs County, Sweden, February 10, 1832, and so reached the ripe old age of 90 years, 1 month, 29 days. He grew to young manhood in his native parish, and was there united in marriage to Miss Fredrika Christina Schill. To their union, two children were born, both of whom preceded their parents to the Better Land above. In 1868, Mr. Carlson came to America stopping first in Illinois, and coming to Swede Bend, Iowa, in 1869. There he united with the Swedish M. E. Church and was a faithful member of that church until his death. The family afterwards lived in Des Moines, Fort Dodge and Boone, moving to Dayton in 187., which they made their home since until death called them. Mrs. Carlson passed way in 1888. He was again married, October 27, 1890 to Mrs. Martha Ostlund, who also preceded him to the Land Above less than three months ago. Left to mourn his death, are his niece, Mrs. A. V. Anderson of this place, also his step daughters, Mrs. Carlson of Burdick, Kansas, Mrs. Bjorkman of Des Moines, and Mrs. Lina Littzen and Mrs. Anna Sellgren of Dayton. His funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the Swedish M. E. church, where he served as janitor for nearly forty years until feebleness of age compelled him to retire from the service. Rev. Walker, pastor of the church, and Rev. Holmgren, pastor of the Boxholm M. E. Church, conducted the exercises, and his remains were laid to rest in Dayton cemetery. Mr. Carlson was sexton of Dayton Cemetery for over thirty-five years, where now he has been laid by loving hands, friends who have appreciated his devotion to his duties. Mr. Carlson's life was one of service to the Master he ever loved. He lived simply, but he lived faithfully in the sunshine of the Savior, and was eager to go to the Haven of Rest, and find there the peace which passeth understanding. A host of friends will miss his earnest greeting, which came from his joyful heart to all who knew him.
