Livermore died at 3.16 o’clock last Friday afternoon after an Illness of two weeks and three days. She took sick Wednesday, October 19 with the Erysipelas which had its incipiency in a running sore just above the ankle on the inner side of her left foot, which had given her more or less trouble for a period of something like twenty five years, being healed at intervals. In connection with the erysipelas she took down with an aggravated bilious attack, and an aching of the muscles and joints similar to that of an attack of la grippe. For few days she had a high fever accompanied the first two days by some delirium. The following Saturday morning she seemed somewhat improved and from then on the symptoms became so that the physician, nurse and all concerned believed she would soon be in her usual health. The day of her death she was able to be taken to the table for her dinner and especially enjoyed it. She sat up about two hours on that occasion, returning to bed about one o'clock. Some time after two o'clock she began to have much difficulty in breathing, which became more and more and more laborious until death. The nurse, Mrs. George Dasher and her sister, Mrs. Mary Hadwin, did everything possible to bring her relief. Both doctors were out of town when the fatal attack came but Dr. Fenstermacher arrived twenty or thirty minutes and resorted to the use of the usual heart remedies in such cases but without effect. The attack was so sudden that the only one of her children able to reach her bedside before death was G. E. Livermore, the editor of this paper. As inferred above one of her sisters Mrs. Mary Hadwin of Mount Ayr, Iowa, was present. The funeral was held Monday, November 7th, beginning at two o'clock P. M. with a short service at the house by Rev. M. M. Long, pastor of the M.E. church, following; which the members of Valley Queen Lodge No. 154, of which she was a member led the processing to the M. E. Church for the regular services. The pallbearers were Roy Jacobs, Roy Brush, Will Kidder, Clyde Metcalf, Lou Watson and J. H. Ottun also members of the Rebekah lodge. The singing at the church was by a mixed quartette consisting of the Misses Callie and Margaret Wood, Elwin Davis and Kenneth Crownover of the Christian church of which the deceased was a member, the titles being "No Night There", ''Safe in the Arms of Jesus"; and "Beautiful isle of Somewhere", Mrs. Elwin Davis being the pianist. Rev. M. M. Long, using as a text from the book of Job the words "If a man die, shall he live again? " preached one of the most comforting funeral sermons the writer has ever heard. Following the service and the viewing of the remains, the body was taken to the cemetery and interment was made by the side of her husband who preceded her many years. All of her children with the exception of one were present for the funeral, as was also two of her sisters, Mrs. Mary Hadwin previously being mentioned, and Mrs. Annie Wilson of Kansas City, and her only brother James D. Hatch also of Kansas City, Missouri. Obituary Sophia Estella Hatch was born April 3rd, 1854 on a farm in Marion county Ohio, and died at the age of 67 years, 7 months and 1 day. She was the oldest of a family of five girls and one boy. In 1856 when she was just two years old, her parents Edward Dudley and Sophia Alithea Hatch moved from Ohio and located on a farm in Ringgold county, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood, securing her education in a district school and the schools of Mt. Ayr, the county seat of Ringgold county . At the age of sixteen years she began teaching school. -She taught eight terms in all, part of them after her marriage which was to Millard Fillmore Livermore May 4th.,1873. Eight children were born to this union, the first, a girl, dying in infancy. The others are all living. They are Guy Ernest Sargent, Nebraska; Weldon Otis, Ingleside, Nebr; Floy Estella, Mrs. Lulu Maude Hicks, and Mrs. Matie Althea Hicks, Sargent; Millard Fay, Burwell, Nebr. and Edward Harrison, Sargent. The Iatter part of March, 1879, Mrs. Livermore and her three children left Mt. Ayr Iowa and went to Central Kansas to join her husband who had gone there a few weeks before to work with a railroad construction crew. This work required a considerable amount of moving from place to place and after several months they located to a pre-emption in Gove, county Kansas where they lived for a until the later part of January 1883 when they left in a covered wagon for the James River country in what way the territory of Dakota at that time. When they arrived at Loup City they heard of government land in the Middle Loup Valley of Custer county and decided to drive up the valley arriving here the third day of March 1883. The next day they rented a farm that lies just north of Sargent, and the husband soon afterwards went to Grand. Island and filed homestead papers on a quarter section of land which lies a mile east and a half mile south of Sargent. They moved onto that place the tenth of October, 1884, and that was her home until the spring of 1909, a period of twenty five and one half years. At that time she and her children who were still at home decided to leave the farm and moved to Sargent, occupying the house in which she died twelve and one half years later. Her husband died March l3th., 1892, twenty nine years, eight months and twenty two days before her death. Beside her children she is survived by four sisters and one brother: Mrs. Jennie Miller, Eastland, Texas; Mrs. Lucy Oberlender, Grandfield Oklahoma; Mrs, Annie Wilson, Kansas City, Missouri; Mrs. Mary Hadwin, Mt. Ayr, Iowa; and James Dudley Hatch, Kansas City, Missouri. Her mother died about four years ago and her father about one year ago. Shortly after, she began teaching school she was converted at a series of meetings which a Disciples of Christ preacher was held near the country school of which she had charge. Soon after their marriage she and her husband united with the Methodist- Episcopal Church in their neighborhood and remained active members until their departure for Kansas. They took their church letters with them, but settling in a new country where there was ho church they did not use them, and left them by mistake when they came to Nebraska. In the summer of 1893 when the Congregational church was organized here, she united with it, remaining a member until it was disbanded when she united with the Christian church of which she was a member at the time of her death. Beginning with the time she left Iowa early in 1879, Mrs. Livermore's life for many years were subject to the hardships and deprivations that have been the lot of ail pioneers. The spring of 1881 her husband accompanied several other men on an expedition thirty miles from home after Buffalo bones (the animals having been ruthlessly slaughtered by hunters a few years prior to that time) These were to be taken to the railroad at Grainfield fourteen miles; from her home and sold. 'Shortly after starting home, Mr. Livermore’s load upset and a muzzle loading rifle lying on the load just behind him was discharged the bullet entering back and passing through the breast bone came out again about an inch the spinal cord. Although he has recovered from this serious wound, it is thought that the state of his health the last few years was due somewhat to that cause. When he died early in 1892, Mrs Livermore resolutely decided to keep her children with her and remain on the farm, the oldest at that time being sixteen and the youngest a few months past three years, and it was by her management and care that they were able to complete their education as far as the schools of Sargent at that time were prepared to so that the oldest son and two oldest daughters were soon entering the ranks as school teachers and that combined with the farm work of the second son and later that of the younger boys enabled her to pay off a mortgage on the farm and clear up all other debts, build an edition to the farm house and eventually leave the farm and pass the remaining years of her life in town.
