Description	:	The Newton Daily News, October 11, 1961 Sophia Mather, 88, Dies at Hospital; Services Friday Mrs. Sophia Benskin Mather, 88, of Laurel, a longtime resident of the Newton community, died at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Skiff Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Toland Funeral Home. The Rev. Darwin Pierce, minister of the Laurel Methodist Church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Metz Cemetery near Newton. Hesson of Newton, Mrs. Charlie Bair of Newton; 10 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son, three brothers and a sister. Mrs. Mather was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She is also a member of the Daily News Three-Quarter Century Club. The daughter of William and Nancy Bridges Iske, she was born Sept. 8, 1873 at Newton. She was married Sept 20, 1892 to Joe Benskin who died in 1931. Mrs. Mather moved to Laurel in 1948.
