Kempf, daughter of Jacob and Anna Margaretta Schafbuch, was born September 16, 1857, near Dubuque, Iowa, and departed this life July 24, 1941, at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 8 days. At the age of eight years, she came with her parents to Iowa county and lived with them on a farm in Sumner township. On December 10, 1876, she was united in marriage to John J. Kempf, of Victor, in which place she resided during her entire married life. Her husband passed away in January, 1929. Three children were born to this union, Anna, Mrs. Charles Raffensperger, died in 1926 and one son Edward C., only four weeks ago. One son, George, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, remains to cherish her memory. She is also survived by one brother, Peter Schafbuch, of Marengo, and two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Jennie Kempf of Victor and Mrs. Ruth Kempf of Milwaukee, WI. She will be lovingly remembered by her seven grandchildren, Mrs. C. D. McAninch, and Lester and Earl Kempf of Victor, Orville Raffensperger of Des Moines, Leonard Raffensperger of Waterloo, Mrs. James Callahan of New York City and Kathryn Kempf of Milwaukee, WI. She also leaves six great-grandchildren besides a host of relatives and friends. Mrs. Kempf or "Grossma," as she was known to her relatives and friends, had been in failing health for several years, but had been most devotedly and tenderly cared for by her daughter-in-law Mrs. Jennie Kempf, until about a month ago when she was taken to a rest home in Milwaukee, to be hear her son, George. It was in this home that death came to her from the effects of a heart attack. The deceased was a faithful member of the Congregational church and until her health failed was an active member of both the D.K. and missionary societies. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star and enjoyed the meetings regularly as long as her health permitted. She was a woman of sterling qualities, fine Christian character, quiet and unassuming, and a loving mother and grandmother, Until her health failed her life was spent in service for others. A rich reward will surely be hers. She was ever faithful to her convictions of right, obedient to the demands of honor and justice. She loved her kindred and friends in affliction evinced that trustful faith. She ever lived in the spirit of charity and the love of truth. Funeral services were held in the Congregational church on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. Forest A. Moore, pastor of the Congregational church at Hartwick, officiating, given a brief talk; in fact, "a fine an fitting sermon in a few words well chosen." Mrs. Forrest Shaull and Hollis Fish sang two songs, "Sometimes We'll Understand" and "Saved by Grace," with Mrs. E. I. Lawton at the piano. She was laid to rest beside her husband in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. The pall bearers were Harry Chittenden, Henry Wahl, James Lawlor, John Geis, J. W. Shultz, Jr., and Albert Dusterhoft.
