Kempf, a lifelong resident of Victor, departed this life at his home on Thursday morning, June 26, 1941, at the age of 62 years, one month and 8 days. Mr. Kempf, eldest son of John and Sophia Kempf was born in Victor, Iowa, May 18, 1879. He attended the public schools of Victor. On May 7, 1900, he was united in marriage to Jennie Wilson, who survives him together with their three children, Gertrude Callahan of New York City, Lester and Earl, both of Victor, his aged mother, Sophia Kempf, and one brother, George Kempf of Milwaukee, WI., besides many other relatives and friends. His father, John Kempf, died in January, 1929, and one sister, Anna Raffensperger, preceded him in death in December, 1926. Mr. Kempf was engaged as carpenter during most of his life until his health became such that he could not continue his work. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and a charter member of Knights of Pythias of Victor. In early life he was baptized in the German Reform Church near Victor. Mr. Kempf's health had been failing during the last year and he knew for some time before the end came that he was suffering from an incurable disease and would have to pass on. He was patient and considerate during his illness and expressed no word of complaint, and passed quietly away when the time came. Mr. Kempf had the kindly care of his devoted wife and children during his last illness and everything possible was done to make his last days on earth as comfortable as possible. His aged mother, who had been lovingly care for during several years of ill health, by Mrs. Kempf, was in his home at the time of his last illness and death. Funeral services were held at the McAninch funeral home on Saturday afternnon at 2 o'clock. Rev. J. J. Pritchard of the Methodist Church delivered the sermon in the presence of a large concourse of friends and relatives who had assembled to honor the memory of their friend. The pall bearers were Bert Glass, Julius VanNevel, William Johnson, Ed Haag, O. J. Bowman and John Rauch. At the conclusion of the services interment was made in I.O.O.F. cemetery. All the business houses closed during the hour of the funeral as a mark of respect.
