Mrs. Sophia Margaret Brunken Kuper was born on the 19th of January, 1842, at Bockhorn, Oldenburg, Germany. In her infancy she was baptized in the name of the triune God and she renewed her baptismal vow on the 20th of April, 1856, at her confirmation.... Mrs. Sophia Margaret Brunken Kuper was born on the 19th of January, 1842, at Bockhorn, Oldenburg, Germany. In her infancy she was baptized in the name of the triune God and she renewed her baptismal vow on the 20th of April, 1856, at her confirmation. On the 17th of June, 1863, she was united in marriage to Dietrich Kuper. Six children, four daughters and two sons, were born to this union, of whom three daughters preceded their mother to the Great Beyond. In the year 1893 she came to the United States with her family, where she settled in Nuckolls county (sic), Nebraska, which remained her home to her death. In 1899 she was bereaved of her husband, Dietrich Kuper, since which time she made her home with her son, F.C. Kuper. For the last few weeks Mrs. Kuper had been ailing, yet her end came unexpectedly last Thursday morning, having reached the ripe old age of 86 years, 10 months and 11 days. She leaves to mourn her departure her two sons, Dietrich and Fred C., and one daughter, Mrs. Minnie Harz of Linn, Kansas; 21 grand children. She was laid to rest in the Nelson cemetery Saturday, her pastor Rev. Chr. Bunge of the Smyrna Lutheran church, officiating. The funeral was held at two o'clock Saturday afternoon at the church. It is not death to die- To leave this weary road, And, midst the brotherhood on high, To be at home with God. Jesus, Thou Prince of Life, They chosen cannot die; Like Thee, they conquer in the strife, To reign with Thee on high.
