Description	:	ELMER LEO FRIES JR June 12, 1948 ~ June 21, 2017 Elmer, most often known as "Big E" passed peacefully on June 21st in Reno, Nevada, with his wife, son and daughter by his side. Elmer was born in Woodland, California, to Elmer Fries, Sr. and Lillian Fries. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Fredrick Fries and sister Lillian (Tony) Scott. Read More	ELMER LEO FRIES JR June 12, 1948 ~ June 21, 2017 Elmer, most often known as "Big E" passed peacefully on June 21st in Reno, Nevada, with his wife, son and daughter by his side. Elmer was born in Woodland, California, to Elmer Fries, Sr. and Lillian Fries. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Fredrick Fries and sister Lillian (Tony) Scott. He is survived by his wife, Babette (Babs), son Elmer L. Fries, III (Michele), grandson Elmer L. Fries IV, daughter Elena Tomasetti and grandchildren Isabella, Lillian and Ferruccio; his brother, Henry Fries; mother-in-law, Carrol Hinkle and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also lovingly known as Pop-E to many children who were not fortunate enough to have a grandpa. Elmer moved from Chico to Red Bluff when he was in the 5th grade. He graduated from Red Bluff High School and went to work at Diamond International in Red Bluff as a talleyman. He was drafted into the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division in 1969 and when he came home on leave he married Babs. He shipped out to Vietnam eight days later and served as a combat infantryman. He was wounded twice and received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. When Elmer was honorably discharged from the Army he returned to work at Diamond where he remained for 23 years until the plant sold. He then went to work as a shipping foreman for Roseburg Lumber Co. until its closure, then the Louisiana Pacific shake plant until it closed. He went on to work at Wilcox Oaks Golf Club for 5 years as assistant greens superintendent and then Oak Creek Golf Course where he retired as greens superintendent. In addition, Elmer and Babs have owned and operated E's Locker Room since 1984. Elmer served as president and tournament chairman of the Oak Creek Men's Club for many years and was a longtime member of the Red Bluff Elk's Lodge, VFW Post 1932 and American Legion. Elmer loved sports and in his earlier years played city A league slow pitch baseball and city league basketball. He was an avid golfer, bowler, hunter and fisherman. Elmer was best known for his big genuine smile and bear hug. He loved people and was loved in return. Services will be held at Igo Veterans Cemetery on August 4th at 9:30 a.m. The Patriot Riders will escort the procession from the North Cottonwood Elementary School located at 19920 Gas Point Rd. promptly at 8:30 a.m. A reception will follow at the Red Bluff Elks Lodge, on 355 Gilmore Rd., Red Bluff. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tehama Shriner's Club, P.O.
