Read More	Stark-Welin Funeral Home Milo Walter Deuel, 95, of the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, Iowa died Friday evening, April 22, 2016 at the Boone County Hospital in Boone. Milo was born on February 14, 1921 in LeMars, Iowa; the son of Frank Bell and Alice (Sachse) Deuel. He formerly lived in Niles, Michigan, Omaha, Nebraska, Council Bluffs, Iowa and Cherokee, Iowa. He graduated from Wilson High School in Cherokee, Iowa in 1941. While in high school, he was involved in class plays during his sophomore, junior and senior years. He was also a member of DeMolay, serving as Master Counselor for the Northwest District of DeMolay. Milo graduated in absentia in April of 1943 from Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri. He served in World War II from 1943 to 1945 in the Army serving with B and Service Companies, in the 169th Infantry, 43rd Division. This division was a New England National Guard Unit and was stationed in the Asiatic-South Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant receiving the Bronze Star and was most proud of receiving the Combat Infantry Badge. On December 14, 1947, he married Sara M. Kountz of Des Moines, Iowa in St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in Des Moines. In 1949, he graduated from the College of Pharmacy at the State University of Iowa. From 1949 to 1950, he worked as a pharmacist at Nelson Drug Store in Cherokee, Iowa and Walgreen Drug Company in Davenport, Iowa and Rock Island, Illinois. In 1950, he moved to Boone where he owned and operated Deuel Drug Store until 1986. Milo was later employed at SavMore Drug and the Clinic Pharmacy part time as a registered pharmacist from 1987 until he retired in 2000. He was a member of the Mt. Olive Lodge #79 AF&AM, the Masonic Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite; Valley of Clinton Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Boone County Shrine Temple, Boone County Shrine Club, and twice served as president of the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. Milo was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Boone where he served as Senior Warden numerous time, was a licensed Lay reader, chalice bearer and Eucharistic minister. He also was a member of the Iowa Pharmaceutical Association, past president of the Boone – Story County Pharmaceutical Association and was honored by the Governor of the State of Iowa in recognition of over 50 years of service as a registered practicing pharmacist. In 1992, he returned to the South Pacific with his wife Sara visiting New Zealand, a place he grew to love during his WWII tour. Milo annually presented lectures on World War II to the 8th grade students at Boone High School. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, love and loyalty to his wife and family, and his strong allegiance to his country as a veteran of the Army. He dedicated himself to his career as a pharmacist and set an example for all those who knew him with his strong work ethic. Outside his professional career, he enjoyed woodworking and genealogy. His parents; brother, Dean E. Deuel and his daughter, Sara Elizabeth Myers, preceded him in death. Milo wished to be cremated. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday morning, April 26th at 11:00 a.m. at the Grace Episcopal Church at 707 8th Street in Boone with Rev. Sheryl Hughes-Empke officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday evening, April 25th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with the family present during that time to greet friends at the Eastern Star Masonic Home, 715 West 3rd Street in Boone, in the East Lounge of the Health Care wing by entering the canopy entrance on McPherson Street. Visitations will continue on Tuesday morning at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. with a reception at Noon to follow.
